Obituary of Norma Ester Cornfield
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Norma Ester Cornfield, loving wife of Murray Cornfield, announce her passing on September 9, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on September 3, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Louise Seeley.
Norma was fondly raised by her uncle and aunt Freeman and Lilla Gardner of West Saint John. In her earlier years Norma was employed by NBTel. She and Murray also owned and operated a chicken farm in Clarendon. Norma and her husband owned and operated the Blue Bird Motel and Restaurant in Sussex. She also volunteered with the palliative care unit in the Saint John General and Regional Hospitals. Norma was a member of the I.O.D.E., sang in church choirs, and was an accomplished seamstress. She also loved travelling, especially to Florida in the winter time. Above all, Norma was kind, loving and giving who always had her family’s interests at heart.
Norma will be missed by her husband of sixty-six years, Murray; sons, Scott Cornfield (Carol) of Quispamsis and Grant Cornfield (Joanne) of Hampton; grandchildren, Matthew Cornfield (Becky), Ashley Cornfield (Nick), Allison Cornfield (Justin) and Stephen Cornfield; great-grandchildren, Keira, Cole, Emily, Quinn and Mackenzie; as well as many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great- nephews.
In addition to her mother, Norma was predeceased by her daughter, N. Lynn Cornfield and her brother, Edward "Buster" Seeley.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 12 noon from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
