Obituary of Leilen Perley Kinney
Leilen (Lee) Kinney, husband of Sheena (Kinghorn) Kinney, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in California Settlement, April 14, 1939, he was the son of Victoria (Spencer) Kinney and the late Perley Kinney. As a young man, Lee began his life as a sailor, travelling the world aboard the HMCS Bonaventure, a career which he loved. The navy taught him his future trade in the electrical field. He was a member of Local 502 as a journeyman electrician for over 40 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping every summer for several years at both the Cambridge Narrows and Pleasant Lake Campgrounds, where many friendships and memories were made. Lee had a huge heart. He was always willing to help anyone in need. Everyone knew they could depend on him, no matter what they needed. Lee dearly loved and thoroughly enjoyed every moment with his two granddaughters, Katelyn and Sarah Kinney, who lovingly referred to him as Banky. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and grampy (Banky) who will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He will be in our hearts forever. Lee is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sheena (Kinghorn); daughter, Rhonda Kinney; son, Brent (Louise); two granddaughters, Katelyn and Sarah Kinney, all of Saint John; his mother, Victoria Kinney of Grand Falls, NB; sisters, Janice (Edgar) Hodges of Brantford, ON, Shirley (Leon) Peters of Hamilton, ON, Lena Levesque and Donna (Robert) McCarthy, all of Grand Falls, NB and Linda (Joseph) Cook of Hamilton, ON; brothers, Lemuel (Germaine) of Green River, NB, and Lester (Roseanne) of St. Leonard, NB; sister-in-law, Theresa (Bruce) Patten of Toronto, ON; and several nieces and nephews. Lee was predeceased by his younger brother, Leonard and his father, Perley Kinney. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424) where the family will receive visitors on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
