Obituary of Owen Leslie Best
The death of Owen Leslie Best, formerly of 2435 Candace Street, Saint John, husband of Kathleen C. (Peters) Best, occurred on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born at Saint John on December 16, 1928, he was a son of the late Leslie and Gertrude (Rossiter) Best. Owen was employed for 25 years with Irving Pulp and Paper, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 14, and a member of the Legion Dart Team. In addition to his wife, Owen is survived by his step-children, Dianne Leary of Farmington, New Hampshire, Duane (Judy) Cope , also of Farmington, and David (Julie) Cope of Rochester, New Hampshire; three sisters, Annie (Ottie) McLean of Sussex, Eunice Ohmar of St. Stephen, and Mary Gray of Edmonton, Alberta; 18 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Owen was predeceased by brothers Wylie, Earl, and Harold Best. In keeping with Owen’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be held. For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
