Losing Fred is painful for all that knew him. He had this great Spirit about him that radiated to everyone he came across. I worked with him when my cousin had a souvenir shop in the falls restaurant;he was always so excited for no reason at all for just about everything. His positivity was infectious! I learned so much from him about my own city I didn't even know and life in general! I am deeply sorry for your loss! You all will be in my prayers!

My first encounter with Fred was years ago when he came to chat with me about his ideas for the Fundy Bay Festival - at the time I worked as an itinerary planner so a small local company. Fast forward a few years, his resume comes through our office at Discover Saint John in response to a call for Visitor Information Counsellors. I was thrilled to meet him again and was often inspired by his love for the Saint John region and the level of service he provided to visitors to our city. Tens of thousands of visitors crossed Freds path over the past eight years and were better for it, each time walking away being told to Keep Smiling. Fred, you are loved and you will be greatly missed. I have no doubt your legacy of positivity and optimism will be carried on by all the colleagues youve worked alongside over the years.

Fred was a wonderful person. Having him work in the Visitor Information Centres with the Discover Saint John team was an amazing fit. I remember him saying from very early on, "Jen, I should have been doing this 20 years ago!" He greatly enjoyed his work, it wasn't work to him, interacting with visitors and encouraging them to make the most of their time in Saint John. He went above and beyond for everyone he met, and he genuinely loved what he was doing. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. We loved him dearly and he was truly an outstanding Saint John Ambassador.

So sorry to hear about Fred's passing and for the great loss you are all suffering. I met Fred decades ago when he worked day and night at Rockwood Park. He always made time to chat for at least a few minutes every time we crossed paths no matter how busy he was. He was that way with everyone he knew - always closing every conversation with a "Keep Smiling" and to wish you the best. Fred was a wonderful soul who has left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure to know him. He will be missed by so many. Thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time.
