Obituary of Robert Myles Kierstead
The death of Bob Kierstead, husband of Shirley C. (Shannon) Kierstead, occurred on January 25, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a period of failing health. He was born on November 3, 1924 at Saint John to the late Roy E. and Bertha A. (Thorne) Kierstead. Bob served with the Royal Canadian Navy in World War II. He was employed with Imperial Oil Ltd. for many years until his retirement. Bob was a member of the Beaus and Belles Square Dancing Club, an avid bowler and card player; cribbage and 45’s. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Shirley; their daughter: Barbara Kierstead-Shanks and her husband Brian Shanks of Quispamsis; two sisters: Rheta Appleby of Cambridge Narrows and Constance “Connie” Miller (Russell) of Rothesay; brother, Rev. Canon David Kierstead of Saint John; brother-in-law, John Shannon of Montreal, QC and seven nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by an infant daughter, Elizabeth; infant sister, Norma Edith and sister, Freda Kierstead. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday From 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Funeral Service will be held from St. Paul’s Church, 4 Church Avenue, Rothesay, NB on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 11 AM. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service will be held on Wednesday at 7 PM during visiting. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. In lieu of flowers remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
