Obituary of Robert Albert McCann

Surrounded by his family, the death of Bob McCann, husband of E. Reloy (Jost) McCann, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, April 12, 2011. He was born on August 7, 1927 at Penobsquis to the late John and Margaret (Byers) McCann. At the age of eighteen Bob joined the Royal Canadian Navy. His career in the Navy was during peacetime, he served on many different ships and was involved with many operations; including being in the Caribbean during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired after 20 years as a Chief Petty Officer. He then worked as a car salesman for Downey Ford for over 26 years before his retirement. Bob loved his motorhome and his retirement home in Westfield. He would sit on his deck and "watch the world go by". Besides his wife of over 60 years Reloy, Bob is survived by his daughter, Joanna Bland (Bruce) of Saint John; son, Colin (Virginia) of Mississauga, ON; four grandsons: Colin, Derek, Rob and Sean; one great granddaughter, Alexandra as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; five brothers: Edward, Leo, Steve, Bill and Jerry and four sisters: Mary, Cecilia, Helen and Frances. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Parkinson’s Society, MS Society or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Bob’s family would like to thank Rocmaura Nursing Home for their compassion and care during his stay.
