Obituary of Teresa Veronica Riley
After several months of failing health, Teresa Veronica Riley of Saint John died peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born at Saint John on September 5, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Thomas H. and Mary (McCurdy) Riley. Teresa spent her childhood years, along with her seven siblings in the South End of the city. She attended St. John the Baptist School, St. Vincent’s Girls High School, and graduated from Saint John Vocational School. She worked for a number of years for the N.B. Board of Underwriters on King Street. For the past forty years, Teresa was a faithful member of St. Pius X Parish; she was a member of St. Pius X CWL, an active volunteer with the Saint John Branch of the Right to Life Association, and also a member of the Irish Canadian Cultural Association. Teresa is survived by her sisters, Josephine Whalen of Saint John and Joan O’Rourke (Tony) of St. Lazare, Québec; several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Teresa was predeceased by siblings Margaret Sherwood, John Riley, Catherine McNulty, Thomas Riley, and James Riley. Jim passed away on December 24, 2011 at the Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Ontario. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Friday, January 13, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Pius X Church, 316 Somerset Street, Saint John, on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to Rocmaura Nursing Home, Romero House, the Cathedral Fund, or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
