Obituary of Vernon L. Hobbs
The death of Vernon (Bomer) L. Hobbs of 33 Smythe Street, Saint John, occurred unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on January 4, 2011. Born in Saint John, Bomer was a son of the late Howard and Clara (Day) Hobbs. Vernon was educated in city schools, and had been employed with various construction companies and the CN Railway, and was a member of the labour union. Vernon enjoyed the outdoors and loved walking, and he also enjoyed spending time with his buddies uptown and was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan. He was predeceased by his wife, Madeline M. (Doucette) Hobbs, and four brothers: Norman, Howard, David, and Kenneth. Bomer is survived by his common law wife, Barbara Craig; three daughters, Wanda Griffith (Roland) of Vanderhoff, BC, Lori Hobbs, and Lisa Pitt (Malcolm), both of Saint John East; one brother, Ralph Hobbs (Ann) of Saint John West; one sister, Grace Coyle (John) of Saint John; four grandchildren, Daniel, J.J., Megan, and Drake; two great-grandchildren, Cohen and Caleb; several nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), from where the funeral service will be held on Monday, January 10, 2011, at 12 noon. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
