Obituary of Dorothy Elizabeth McCormack
Dorothy Elizabeth McCormack of Saint John, wife of the late Harry L. McCormack, passed away on Thursday, February 09, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Chatham, New Brunswick on August 28, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Elizabeth (Vienneau) Wilt. Dorothy was a long time member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church, where she was president of the Maude Taylor Branch of the Anglican Church Women. She was also active in the IODE, being Regent of the Lady LaTour Chapter, as well as welcoming new citizens to Canada with her involvement in the Chapter. A tireless volunteer in the community, Dorothy gave of her time and talents at the St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home, as well as many other charitable causes in the area. Dorothy is survived by her children, Elizabeth Henderson of Toronto, Laura Dutton of London, and Lee McCormack (Heather) of Ottawa; grandchildren David McCormack (Bethany), Brenda Price (Andrew), Susan Wright (Timothy), Lisa Lloyd (Angus), Cathy Bird, Donna Bird, Wendy Bird, and Jennifer Vyse; great grandchildren Jordan Wright, Gillian Wright, Christopher Vyse, Nicholas Vyse, Shauna Pronovost (Josh), Jackson Lloyd, Keely Lloyd; great great grandchildren Austin Gamble, Rayne, Gage, and Xander Pronovost; and several nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of her immediate family, Dorothy was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters. The family would like to thank the staff of the Chateau de Champlain for their excellent care of Dorothy while she was a resident; and a special thank you to her personal caregivers Carole Kohr, Barbara MacKenzie, and Thelma Burke; to Dorothy’s close friend Sandra Winchester; and to the nursing staff and Drs. Stephenson and Woods for the excellent care Dorothy received at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Your kindness to our mother will never be forgotten. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Sunday, February 12, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Funeral Service will be held from St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 369 Main Street, Saint John, on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
