Surrounded by his family, the death of Derek Brown, husband of Amy Brown (Giberson) occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, August 19, 2011. He was born on May 12, 1949 at Newcastle-on-Tyne, County Durham, England to the late Capt. Charles and Roslind (Jordan) Brown. Derek was a Sales Representative for various companies including: MacKay Forest Products, Atlantic Home Improvements, Saint John Door and Window and Westmorland Homes. He was a very outgoing person; Derek would give you the shirt off his back. Derek loved spending time with his family, friends, animals and had a great appreciation for cooking and the wilderness. Besides his devoted wife Amy, Derek is survived by two sons: Tom (Jennifer Stackhouse) of Saint John and Tim (Kendra) of Quispamsis; daughter, Kate Brown of Saint John; two grandchildren: Jesse and Kelsey; brother, Ken (Lillian) of Quispamsis; sister, Rosalind Moyst (Howard) of Dartmouth, NS; mother-in-law, Jennie Giberson; brother-in-law Kerry (Maxine); six sisters-in-law: Anne (Paul), Ruth (Ian), Jean (Steve), Joan (Greg), Holly (Gord) and Beth (Dan) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; father-in-law Arthur and brother-in-law, Bob. At Derek’s request there will be no formal funeral service. However, the family will receive family and friends at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Monday, August 22, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Animal Rescue League/SPCA or a good deed in his honour would be appreciated by the family.
