Obituary of Allan Richard Dobson
Surrounded by his loving family and after an amazingly courageous journey with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), the death of Allan "Al" Richard Dobson of Saint John, NB, beloved husband and best friend of Eileen (Collins) Dobson, occurred on Monday, June 13, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on June 6, 1959 in Campbellton, NB, he was a son of Ronald and Mary Ann (Dubois) Dobson. Al was employed with Allied Van Lines in his earlier career and since 1998 with J. D. Irving as a crane operator. He was a member of Local 946 Operating Engineers for twenty-two years. A member of St. Peters Church, Al loved nature, animals outdoors and spent many happy times on his boat, fishing and enjoying the company of his friends. Al was Jack-of-All-Trades and took great pride in helping his family and friends. Besides his wife and parents he is survived by daughter, Sherrey Ann Dobson of Campbellton; sister, Rhea Dobson (Bill Foran Jr.) of Oak Bay, QC; three brothers: Melvin Dobson (Dianna) of Moncton, NB, David Dobson of Pointe A Lagard, QC, Gary Dobson of Ontario; mother-in-law, Claire Collins (his special mom); sisters-in-law, Judith Collins (Mark Livingstone), Martha MacPherson (Kim); brothers-in-law, David Collins (Barb), Tim Collins (Donna), Frank Collins (Jody); several nieces and nephews. Al will be sadly missed by his best pals Gus and Allie and all his critters, his family and his many great and loyal friends who helped Al and Eileen through this difficult time. To honor Al’s request there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Peter’s Church on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 11 AM. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Animal Rescue League, Paws and Whiskers Sanctuary Inc. or the ALS Society of NB. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). Online condolences may be placed at www.brenansfh.com.
