Obituary of Joseph William Barry
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Joseph William Barry of Saint John, husband of Rita (Driscoll) Barry, which occurred on Friday, March 9, 2012, with his loving family by his side. Born in Stephenville, NL on April 10, 1921 he was a son of the late Patrick and Florence (Gaudet) Barry. Joseph worked for Lawson Motors for many years and also worked as a commissionaire at Coleson Cove and various other locations in the Saint John area. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Regiment. Joseph was an avid fisherman. He was also loyal to the Royal Canadian Legion. He is survived by his loving wife Rita of 68 years; a wonderful father to six children, Elaine (Gary) McLennan of Riverview, NB; Joan (Laurence) Chapman of Saint John; Patricia (Michael) Coholan of Quispamsis; Susan (Finn) Carlsen of Jackson’s Point, NS; Michael Barry of Abbotsford, BC and Robert Barry of Edmonton, AB; five grandchildren, Carey Chapman (James Clouthier); Jason (Danielle) McLennan; Jaime (Andrew) Benner; Mark (Tara) Coholan and Krista (Matthew) Marsh; five great-grandchildren, Reghan and Rylan Benner and Ashton, Liam and Ciara Coholan; one brother, Arthur (Barbara) Barry of Saint John; several nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his son, Joey; three brothers John, Percy and Robert; six sisters, Dorothy, Mary Elizabeth, Geraldine, Doreen, Mercedes and infant, Helen. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Friday, March 30, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 10:00 am. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. A Royal Canadian Legion service will be held on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to Bobby’s Hospice and would be appreciated by the family.
