Obituary of Ronald A. Laking
It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Ron Laking, husband of Colleen (Giberson) Laking which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, November 29, 2011. He was born on September 25, 1926 at McAdam, NB to the late Clair and Bessie (Sutherland) Laking. He worked for Canadian Pacific Railroad for 44 years until his retirement in 1986. Ron was a Mason of the Carleton Union Lodge #8, member of the Scottish Rite, Shriner of Luxor Temple and an honorary member of the Railroad Unit. He was also a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Ron was an avid outdoorsman; his interests included hunting, fishing, bird watching, and walks in the woods. He also enjoyed golfing, being a member at the Westfield Golf and Country Club. He loved a good game of cribbage, woodworking and most of all the many family gatherings. Besides his loving wife of 66 years, Colleen, Ron is survived by his son, David (Diane); daughters: Darlene Boyle (Barry) and Donna Rogers; grandchildren: Jennifer Harrison (Scott), Christina Babin (Bruce), Rhonda Thibert (Kevin), Neil Laking (Kim), Erin Laking, Brent Boyle and Blane Boyle; great-grandchildren, Kali, Kyle, Allison, Samuel, Olivia, Hazen and Amelia; brothers: Paul, Gene (Lillian) and Clair; sister, Jackie Lord (Alfred) and several nieces and nephews. Ron was predeceased by his parents and sisters: Ella Burrell, Lois Tracy and Hazel McNally. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. A Masonic Lodge Tribute Service will be held during visiting starting at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to Kennebec Manor Bus Fund or the Shriners Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
