Obituary of David Newton Jarvis
Jarvis, David Newton – It is with great sadness the family announce the death of David Newton Jarvis of Rothesay N.B. which occurred on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at the Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing in Saint John, N.B. Born in Devon, N.B. on October 25, 1923, he was the son of the late Theodore and Muriel (Ferris) Jarvis. David was a WWII veteran serving in Canada, United Kingdom and Continental Europe. Sergeant Jarvis was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France-Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Medal and Clasp. After a year of peace keeping duties in Germany, in July of 1946, David returned to civilian life. David’s passion for automobiles spanned his entire life. He was employed with Saint John Motors (Dodge, DeSoto) and was Service Manager at O’Brien Motors (Chrysler) for many years. In 1968, David left the service industry to teach Automotive Technology at the New Brunswick Community College in Saint John, retiring in 1988. David was an exceptionally devoted husband and father. David is survived by his wife of over 60 years Helen R. (Chappelle) Jarvis and his three sons; David L. (Judy) Jarvis of Saint John, Gregory E. (Rita) Jarvis of Ottawa and Perry W. (Dianne) Jarvis of Rothesay; 5 grandchildren, David (Kim) Jarvis of Wadena, Sask, Kari (Jason) Richards of Ottawa, Corey Jarvis of Ottawa, Christopher Jarvis of Rothesay, Natalie Jarvis of Fredericton and 4 great-grandchildren; Ethan, Hunter, Anna, and Maxwell. David is also survived by his sisters, Constance Taylor of Fredericton, Jeannie Jarvis of Saint John and brother Alton Jarvis of Owen Sound, Ontario, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers Theodore Jarvis and Jack Jarvis and sisters Ruth Torgensen and Lucy Biggar. In keeping with David’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held from Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John 634-7424 on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 2:00 pm. In David’s memory, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Following the service a reception will be held at Brenan’s Reception Centre. Online condolences may be placed at www.brenansfh.com.
