Obituary of William Edward McCann
Unexpectedly at his winter home in Florida, the death of Bill McCann occurred on Thursday, March 8, 2012. He was born on April 3, 1941 in Saint John to the late Edward and Veronica (Robb) McCann. Bill worked as a teacher for many years, he taught in Plaster Rock and then at St. Rose School in Saint John. He then became Guidance and Supervisor of Student Services in the Rothesay District. From there he became Director of Education and Training at the Dr. Wm. F. Roberts Hospital School. Upon its closing he did some consulting work for the Dept. of Education and retired from Simonds High School as a Guidance counselor. In retirement Bill worked with Aquila Tours as a Guide. He was involved with many groups and charities over the years including: NB Teachers Association, Board of Directors of the Saint John Boys and Girls Club, Board of Directors of Canadian Mental Health, a provincial director of Autism Canada, served on the Westfield Council, Grand Bay-Westfield Planning and Advisory Committee, and St. Patrick’s Society. He is survived by his wife, Wendy of Gondola Point/Quispamsis; sister, Beth McCann of Saint John and brother-in-law, Scott Cromwell of Saint John. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 360 Dufferin Row, Saint John on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
