Obituary of William Watson Black
William Watson Black of Saint John, husband of Lucia B. O’Toole, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Memramcook on December 19, 1926, he was a son of the late Arthur Edward and Olive Matilda Black. Bill worked for several years in Saint John installing billboards throughout the city, and subsequently worked with the Labourer’s Union on several construction projects. In his spare time, Bill liked to play cribbage and cards, and also enjoyed playing the fiddle. In addition to Lucia, Bill is survived by a brother, Jasper Black (Pauline) of Florida; a sister, Kathleen Hanson of Pickering, Ontario; and several nieces and nephews, including Betty Flemming of Georgia, who was especially close to Bill. He was predeceased by brothers Gordon and Lawrence, and by sisters Jean, Doris Garland, and Peggy Lovejoy. In keeping with Bill’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be observed at this time. For those who wish, remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. The funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John.
