Obituary of Beatrice Nellie Smith
In her 100th year, the death of Beatrice Smith, wife of the late Clive D. Smith occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, May 1, 2011. She was born on January 27, 1912 in Saint John to the late Andrew and Margaret (Arthurs) Christopher. Beatrice worked as a school teacher in School District #21 for 32 years; retiring in 1972. She was a member of Bains Corner United Church and UCW; avid Quilter at Glenview and Silver Falls United Churches and the organist for Bains Corner and Golden Grove United Churches. Beatrice was a member of four senior citizen groups: Regency Towers Social Group, Simonds Lions Senior Citizens, Silver Links of Loch Lomond and St. Martin’s Senior Citizens. Beatrice had a unique hobby, the collecting and scrapbooking of news print; her collection goes back many years. Beatrice is survived by her daughter in law Deanna Smith (the late Wesley); two grandsons: Scott Smith (Chris Poirier) and Michael Smith, great grandchildren Andreas and Brandon, niece Francina Hubbard, nephew Robert Spragg, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Thursday at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place in Brown’s Cemetery, Bains Corner. For those who wish, remembrances to Bain’s Corner United Church, Brown’s Cemetery, Heart and Stroke or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
