Obituary of George C.W. Kelly
The death of George C.W. Kelly of Saint John, NB, occurred on Monday February 28, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, son of the late Albert and Ellen (Brigden) Kelly and the loving husband of Helen (Astorino) Kelly for 61 years. Also brother to the late Albert and the late Robert (Bud) Kelly. Besides his wife, survived by daughters, Nancy (Mike) Owens; Karen (Mark) Armstrong; sons, Mark (Hope) Kelly and Tim (Lori) Kelly and seven grandchildren, Gregory, Zachary, Jennifer, Brandon, Jarod, Jeremy and Matthew; three great-grandchildren, Cloé, Zoey and Liam. In his early years an avid basketball player having played juvenile, high school, junior, captor 11 military based team and following military service one year with Dalhousie University Varsity. Served from 1942 to 1945 in the Royal Canadian Navy on Battle of The Atlantic Convoys and following his return from overseas after VE Day was deployed by ship to the Pacific where following VJ Day, he was honourably discharge thru HMCS Naden (Victoria) and HMCS Captor 11 (Saint John). He was very proud of the fact that his father served over seas with the 115 BN Inf Div (WWI) and also his two brothers with the Royal Canadian Navy (WWII). George was employed by the Federal Government from 1954 until his retirement in 1985 mostly with the Property and Building Management Division of Canada Public Works. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 69, the Federal Superannuates National Association (FSNA) and long time member of Westfield Golf and Country Club and was awarded a honourary membership in the year 2008. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday March 2, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Our Lady of the Assumption on Thursday March 3, 2011 at 12:00 noon. Interment in Cedar Hill Ext Cemetery in the spring. A tribute to a veteran’s service will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 pm. Donations may be made to the War Amps Hospital Foundation. Online condolences may be made at www.brenansfh.com.
