Obituary of William James Bedford
William James "Bill" Bedford of Gardener’s Creek, husband of the late Catherine A. (McLaughlin) Bedford, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 07, 2011 at his residence. Born at Saint John on January 5, 1937, he was a son of the late Frederick and Madelyne (Norton) Bedford. In his younger years, Bill served with the Canadian Armed Guards, and then worked as a woodsman for several years before joining the bridge crew of the Department of Transportation, retiring as a bridge worker 1. Bill loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, driving his four wheeler and tractors, and staying at his camp. He possessed a vast knowledge of the area, and often lent a helping hand to his friends and neighbours. Bill is survived by his three sons, James Bedford (Debbie) of Fairfield, John Bedford (Karen) of Gardener’s Creek, and Tim Bedford (Kim) of Saint John; his special friend and caregiver, Rose Landry; grandchildren Paul Bedford (Chrystal), Laura Janes (Jason), Ashley Keating (Nicholas), Angela Poirier (Aaron) and Rachel Hebert (Jay Lowe); great grandchildren Amelia and Landen Janes, Carmendy and Quintin Bedford, Hallie, Courtney, and Tyler Keating, Keenan Lowe, and Adrian Poirier; a sister, Winnifred Heatherington (John) of Grand Bay-Westfield; a brother, George Bedford (Linda) of Memphis, TN; and several nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by a brother, Frederick Bedford; and a sister, Mary Bedford. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 from 7-9 PM and Wednesday, November 9, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 12:00 Noon from Brenan’s Paradise Row Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the New Brunswick Lung Association or to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
