Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth Casey
It is with heavy hearts that her family announce the death of Margaret Elizabeth Casey. Marg died peacefully at home with her family by her side on November 9th, 2018, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
The youngest of nine children, Marg was born on April 19th, 1937, in Norton, NB, the daughter of the late Patrick Cogger and Alice (Mahoney) Cogger. Besides her parents, Marg was predeceased by her husband of twenty-seven years, William D. Casey; her brothers, Joseph Cogger, Larry Cogger and Jerome Cogger and sister, Kaye White.
Marg is survived by her loving daughter, Kerry Casey; son-in-law, Peter Smith; much adored grandson, Flynn; step-granddaughters, Erin and Caitlin and beloved "grand-dogs," Maeve and Mary Claire. Marg will be remembered by her brother and sisters, Mary Gallagher of Saint John, Frank Cogger of Saint John, Loretta Goguen of Summerside, Pat Byrne and her husband Paul of Southfield; as well as many nieces and nephews and a great many friends.
A gifted storyteller with an exceptional sense of humour, Marg was a friend and confidant to family and friends alike. Outgoing and easy-going, Marg enjoyed country music, competitive bowling, skating with her good friends, travel with family and friends and many Irish cultural events. Of all the happiness Marg took from life, her greatest joys were being a mother to Kerry and grandmother to Flynn.
Although there will be no visitation, relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated from Holy Redeemer Parish, 316 Somerset Street, Saint John on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue or Romero House would be appreciated by the family.
