Obituary of Mildred Jennie Friars
Mildred Jennie Friars of Saint John East, wife of the late James E. Friars, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 20, 2010 at Embassy Hall, Quispamsis. Born at Barnesville on February 8, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Edith (Maxwell) Boyne. Mildred was a life-time member of Glen View United Church, where she was also involved with the U.C.W. and was a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was a long time member of the Glen View Bowling League, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, and enjoyed reading, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. In years past, Mildred and Jim enjoyed trailering, most notably at Sussex Town and Country Trailer Park, and sometimes at Oak Bay. Mildred is survived by her children, Robert Friars (Linda) of Saint John, David Friars (Linda) of Nanaimo, British Columbia, Gary Friars (Gail) of Kiersteadville, and Faye Dunlop (Alan) of Saint John; grandchildren Shelley Freemantle, Sheri Arthurs (Jason), Christopher Friars (Terry), Melanie Brennan (Bob), Jeffrey Dunlop (Julie), Trevor Dunlop (Sonja), and Cali and Jennie Friars; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and to her parents, Mildred was predeceased by her step-father, Raymond Murphy. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Monday and Tuesday, December 27 and 28, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from Glen View United Church on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to Glen View United Church Memorial Fund would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be placed at www.brenansfh.com.
