Obituary of Murray David MacFarlane
Murray David MacFarlane of Saint John, husband of the late Gretchen A. (McAuley) MacFarlane, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 03, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Saint John on November 8, 1916, he was a son of the late Herbert and Gertrude (Wadman) MacFarlane. Murray was formerly employed with the Canadian Pacific Railway for a number of years. He was a long time active member of the former St. Matthew’s Presbyterian Church, later Grace Presbyterian Church where he was currently Elder Emeritus. In his spare time, Murray enjoyed fishing and golfing. Murray is survived by his son, John D. MacFarlane (Dominique Leonard) of Brampton, Ontario; a grandson, Christopher D. MacFarlane (Sylvie) of Brampton; great grandchildren Aidan Nelson, Jacob, Abbie, and Ellie MacFarlane; two sisters, Margaret Noble and Ruth Jones, both of Saint John; and several nieces and nephews. Murray was predeceased by brothers Lester and George; and by a sister, Marion MacFarlane. A celebration of Murray’s life will be held in the form of a reception at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Saturday, March 5, 2011 from 3:30 – 5:00 PM. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery at a later date.
