Obituary of Harold Frederick Whelpley
Harold Frederick Whelpley of Grand Bay-Westfield, husband of Pamela J. (Blount) Whelpley, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 20, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Saint John on December 28, 1939, he was a son of the late Harold and Hazel (Sherwood) Whelpley. Harold worked as a roofer and then for CP Express. In his youth, he played baseball and hockey, and was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens. Harold was also a great animal lover. In addition to his wife of 44 years, Harold is survived by his sons, David H. Whelpley (Tammy) of Saint John and Jody M. S. Whelpley (Angela) of Grand Bay-Westfield; sisters Kay Steeves (Ken) of Saint John, Mary Steele of Grand Bay-Westfield, Ida Sherwood (John) of Grand Bay-Westfield, and Helen McGowan (Dean) of Saint John; a sister-in-law, Shirley Wallace (Bunker) of Saint John; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Harold was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Whelpley, and by a sister Florence Flowers. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to the Children’s Wish Foundation or the IWK Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family, in lieu of flowers.
