Obituary of Stella Gertrude Redstone
The death of Stella Gertrude (Ferris) Redstone occurred Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Loch Lomond Village. Born in Saint John on April 24, 1923, she was the elder daughter of the late James and Margaret (Hicks) Marshall and the beloved sister of the late Hazel (Marshall) Guthrie.
She is predeceased by her husbands Gerald Ferris and Gordon Redstone, as well as by her son Gary Ferris.
Stella is survived by her son Robert Ferris (Wendy) of Ottawa and daughter-in-law, Joanne of Moncton; grandchildren – Sheri (John) of Halifax, Adam and Colleen (Marc) of Ottawa, Mark and Patrick (Jessica) of Moncton; great-grandchildren – James and Spencer; sister-in-law, Cora Redstone of Saint John, as well as by several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was also a special "Mom" to Robert Selby.
For many years, she was a salesclerk in the shoe departments of the former United and Ideal Stores. Stella had the gift of music and shared it with others through her over 50 years of singing in various Saint John church choirs. She was an active Christian, most recently as a member of RiverCross Church. In addition to years as a Sunday School teacher and CGIT leader, Stella was a Dominion Life Member of the U.B.W.M.U., Past President of the Harambee W.M.S., member of the Friendly Fellowship and Chapter #14 of the O.E.S.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, N.B. (634-7424) with visitation on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM & 7:00 – 9:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from the Brenan’s Chapel at 2:00 PM. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Loch Lomond Villa, particularly Willow House for their care and friendship of Stella over many years. Donations to the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation are encouraged.
