Obituary of Paul Edward Butler
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Paul Edward Butler, husband of the late Roberta Agnes (Buckley) Butler, which occurred on Monday, November 14, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on January 15, 1922 to the late Robert and Aleta Butler. Paul was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the Merchant Navy. While serving off the coast of Africa, his ship was destroyed and he spent a week in a life raft before being rescued. After the war, Paul worked for Lantic Sugar for 40 years, retiring in 1986 as a Shift Superintendent. Paul is survived by his children, Joseph (Wendy) of Quispamsis, Paul (Margo) of Saint John, Michael (Vanda) of Rothesay, Catherine Duplisea (Joseph) of Willow Grove, Patricia MacGregor (Gregory) of Quispamsis, Anne McIntyre (Reg Doucet) of Quispamsis; grandchildren Andrew, Peter, Hilary, Meaghan, Laura, Patrick, Christopher, Jennifer, Geoffrey, Stephen, Lynn, Melissa (J.P. Gordon), and Ryan; a brother-in-law Ervine Buckley; sister-in-law, Joan McQuoid and Georgina Butler; a close first cousin Bertha Ruggles of Tiverton, NS; numerous nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of his immediate family, Paul was predeceased by brothers Garfield, Leo, Gerard, Eugene, and George; and a sister Mary. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 7-9 PM and Thursday, November 17, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 11:00 am from St. Pius X Church. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Kidney Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation or any charity of the donor’s choice.
