Obituary of James Colin Huttges

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of James "Red" Colin Huttges of St. Martins, husband of Dolly (Jones) Huttges, which occurred on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on August 20, 1943, he was a son of the late Henry Sr. and Helene (Schubert) Huttges. Jim worked at Lantic Sugar for 36 years, retiring in 2003. Always active in his community, Jim was currently serving as the Mayor of St. Martins. He was on the Board Fundy Solid Waste Commission, the Board of the Fundy Trail. The St. Martins Lions Club, Enterprise Saint John, and the Conservative Party. Jim was an avid sports fan, often found at the hockey rink cheering for his grandsons, and was involved in the Southern New Brunswick Baseball League for decades. His enthusiasm and pride for the Village of St. Martins was evident in his tireless work around the community. In addition to his wife of 43 years, Jim is survived by two daughters, Tanya Bennett (Jeff) of St. Martins and Cassandra Hewey (Derek) of Saint John; grandchildren Josh, Noah, and Isaac Bennett and Avery Hewey; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Henry Jr. and his twin brother, Michael "Mickey". Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held from St. Martins United Church on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Interment in St. Martins Community Cemetery.
