Obituary of Elinor Lee McClare
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our sister, Elinor Lee McClare, of Saint John NB, on November 25, 2018 at the age of 65. She was born in Windsor, Nova Scotia on April 6, 1953 to the late Thomas Annis McClare and Clara Mary (Blois) McClare formerly of Hillsvale, NS.
Elinor is survived by her sister, Lois Dewar (Wray) and brothers, James (Uharda) of Fredericton, Charles (Joan) of Espanola, ON and Ernest (Shirley) of Nanaimo BC; special nieces and nephews, Carmen Dewar-Miller, Mary Dewar-Ducarme and David Dewar, Ted and Richard McClare, Scott and Jennifer McClare; great-nieces and great-nephews, Jillian and Max Miller, Marina, Cohen and Desmond McClare, Kaine, Ayla and Rhett McClare; Stella, Lucy and Mallory Ducarme; Jack and Anna Dewar as well as many cousins. She was predeceased by niece, Mabel Mae.
After graduating from Acadia University with her Bachelor of Computer Science Degree in 1980, Elinor moved to Saint John. She was employed with Bell Aliant at the time of her passing with a planned retirement in April. She was an active member of RiverCross Church in Saint John, having served in various capacities as Deacon, WMS President and working with outreach programs for children. Her special love was singing in her church choir. She travelled extensively and was involved in Mission Trips to both Bolivia and Czechoslovakia through Canadian Baptists Missions (CBM). Elinor also enjoyed family gatherings, live theatre, figure skating, reading and board games. At Christmas we all looked forward to the unique gifts she had chosen for each of us.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visitation on Monday, December 3, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Funeral Service celebrating Elinor’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 2 PM in Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at a later date in South Rawdon, NS. Donations in memory of Elinor can be made to RiverCross Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
