Obituary of Gloria Dawn Millett
MILLETT, G. DAWN – Gloria "Dawn" (Kern) Millett of Saint John passed away after a period of illness on Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Saint John on June 24, 1938, she was the only daughter of the late Frederick and Roberta (Currie) Kern. Dawn graduated from Saint John High School in 1956 and from Saint John Vocational School’s Business Program in 1957. She served as a WREN with HMCS Brunswicker. Her long career in life insurance included working for Dominion Life and Great-West Life, retiring in 2001. Dawn was an active member of the Douglas Avenue Christian Church where she served as a Deaconess and on various church committees, as well as a member of the Fifty Plus Club. She was also a member of the ‘Victorian Vintage Violets’ Red Hat Society, and enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, cooking, and scrapbooking; but most of all she enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchild, who all brought so much joy to her life. Dawn is survived by her children, Cynthia Millett (Zen Hiew) of Quispamsis, Stephen Fritz-Millett (Juanita) of Kingston, ON, Erik Millett (Marie-Christine Cauchon) of Hampton and Jodi Millett (Rita Raymond-Millett) of Quispamsis; grandchildren Victoria Benotto, Aidan, Amelia, and Lucy Fritz-Millett; Aaron Millett; Ka-Liong, Mariah, and Sophia Hiew; and Olivia and Owen Millett; great granddaughter Elizabeth Benotto; one brother, Andrew "Drew" Kern (Allison) of Vernon, BC; and many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews. Dawn appreciated the attentive care she received from all of the Saint John health care professionals in recent years. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Monday, August 22, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service celebrating her life will be held from the Douglas Avenue Christian Church on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to Douglas Avenue Christian Church or the North End Food Bank were suggested by Dawn. Online condolences may be placed at www.brenansfh.com.
