Obituary of Elizabeth Mary Loder
Elizabeth (Betty) Mary Loder of the Turnbull Nursing Home and formerly of 33 Smythe Street passed away at the Turnbull Nursing Home on Saturday, November 26, 2011. Betty was born on Fogo Island, NL on December 16, 1919, she was a daughter of the late George and Emily (Leyte) Loder. Betty was predeceased by sisters, Netta, Ivy and Mildred, brothers, Tom, Arthur and Andrew. Betty is survived by nieces and nephews among them being Lloyd (Lynn) Ginn of Saint John, NB; Mildred (Scott) Dawe of Seldom, NL; Judith (Harvey) Abbott of Edmonton, AB and Caryll (Lindos) Rossitter of Mount Pearl, NL. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Howard Spurrell and sister-in-law, Sadie Loder of NL, and their families. Prior to her retirement Betty worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper at the Salvation Army’s Men’s Hostel for 25 years. Betty was a member of the Salvation Army Church and the Women’s Home League. Treasurer for the Salvation Army Church for 25 years and former secretary of the Women’s Inner Church Council. Betty loved knitting and crocheting and entered them in the Saint John Exhibition for many years. She also loved puzzles and puzzle books and was a faithful Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays fan. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 10:00 am from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Reception to follow and interment at Ocean View Memorial Gardens following the reception.
