Born at Saint John on March 1, 1930, he was a son of the late Waldo and Seneath (Perry) Oldfield. Ray retired from the City of Saint John Parks and Recreation Department, where he worked as a purchasing agent. He was a well know musician and choir director, having served with Douglas Avenue Christian Church, Rothesay Baptist Church, and Main Street Baptist Church. In his spare time, Ray liked flower gardening, and could often be found at Tim Hortons enjoying his favorite coffee. Ray is survived by his children, Wendy Ninaber of Owen Sound, Ontario, and Randy Oldfield (Robin) of Saint John; grandchildren Joshua Ninaber (Lydia), Jonathan Ninaber (Victoria), Joel Ninaber (Natalia), Alexander, Nicholas, and Sarah Oldfield; great grandchildren Isaiah, Zachariah, Alexander, and Madison; the mother of his children, Beverley Oldfield of Saint John; brothers Burton Oldfield of Grand Bay-Westfield, Victor Oldfield (Doreen), Evelyn Curran (Robert), and Lorna Wilson (Bruce), all of Saint John; and several nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by brothers Norman and Waldo Oldfield; and by sisters Nina Reinhart, Audrey Morton, and Ella Walker. Wendy and Randy would like to extend a sincere and special thank you to the staff of Cedar and Birch Lane at the Loch Lomond Villa for the special attention and care given to Ray during his stay there. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Sunday, June 5, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to the Alzheimer Society, the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation, or to any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
