Obituary of Robert David Lovett

Robert David "Bob" Lovett of Quispamsis, husband of Doreen A. (Graham) Lovett, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at his residence. Born at Dartmouth, NS on February 4, 1928, he was a son of the late Frank and Hilda (Moore) Lovett. Bob started the Saint John Toyota Dealership in 1970, and operated it until his retirement. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the Merchant Marines on the SS Cornwallis, and was on board when it was torpedoed in 1942. An active member of his community, Bob was a 45 year member of the Riverside Golf and Country Club, the Merchant Navy Association, and chaired the Air Atlantic Golf Tournament in support of Special Olympics. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Special Olympics Canada. In his spare time, Bob loved golfing and flower gardening, and was exceptionally proud of his lawn grooming talents. He also enjoyed feeding birds and animals in his back yard, and traveled and cruised extensively while his health allowed. In addition to his wife of nearly 38 years, Bob is survived by his children, Dale Lawless of Quispamsis, David Lovett of Kingston, NB, Debbie Lovett (Jim) of Cambridge, England, and Douglas Lovett (Kate) of Maple Ridge, BC; grandchildren Joanna, Emily, Alex, and Sophia; and several nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by a sister, Frances Palmer, and a brother, Noel Lovett. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A celebration of Bob’s Life will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 10:00 am from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel. For those who wish, remembrances to the Dialysis Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the CNIB would be appreciated by the family.
