Charles Hall

Obituary of Charles Richard Hall

It is with great sadness that we, his extended family, announce the death of Dick Hall of Saint John, New Brunswick. Husband and best friend of Anne, Dick passed away in his 96th year at his residence on Tuesday, March 13, 2012. Born in Fredericton, Dick was the son of the late Harold and Gladys (Cooper) Hall. Dick was an avid member of the Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club and was on the Provincial Seniors Curling team when it won the tournament that year. He was also an enthusiastic and loyal member of the Luxor Shrine Oriental Band, Hibernia Lodge #3 F&A.M. Many weekends were spent in the Oriental Marching Band at parades throughout the Maritimes and Maine. For a time, Dick played cornet in Bruce Holder’s Band, He loved all music but especially jazz and enjoyed a record collection that was the envy of many other jazz fans. For a number of years in the 60’s, Dick and Anne owned and ran the Western Tire and Auto in Saint John. Afterwards, they both worked at St. John Toyota where Dick was Supervisor of Parts and Service. He also worked with Universal Sales for many years. His family and friends will remember Dick as the epitome of the "gentle" in "gentleman". He was a kind and generous man, always smiling, forever in a good mood and quick to share a story or joke. He relished the simple things that made life worth living, the things which made every day an adventure for him. He loved "large" days and lived every one to the fullest. He was a keen observer of nature and loved being outside. Dick is survived by his brother John and wife Mary and two sisters, Mary Banks and Muriel Wilbur; several nieces and nephews. His extended family mourn his passing also – David and Sharron Nicholson and their children Elaine, Michael and his special godson Marc Nicholson; well-loved niece Sandy MacDonald-Dixon and her son Evan and daughter Eleanor. He was predeceased by his brother Clowes. The family and extended family wish to express their heartfelt thanks for the special care provided by Patty Creelman of Assessment Plus and also the team of Evelyn, Elizabeth and Jackie who lovingly saw to Dick’s daily care for the last two years. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 12:00 noon from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in Fernhill Cemetery.
