Obituary of Frances Lillian McKay
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frances (Doggett) McKay on April 10th, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family and under the tender care of the staff of the Palliative Care Unit. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Ada (Woodman) Doggett and the widow of L. Scott McKay. Frances was a fifty year plus member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 14 and was also a member of the Press Club. Many would remember her for her years working with Dr. Kee in his dentistry practice. In later years she returned to work as a receptionist in the hair salons of friends. She was a pleasure to meet and enjoyed those she met, particularly children. Frances’ two grandchildren and three great grandchildren were a special love of hers. She is survived by her devoted daughter Bonnie Weir (Russell) of Pennfield, N.B.; her grandsons Graeme (Lisa) Weir and Christopher (Shelley) Weir and her great-grandchildren, Kennedy Weir and Jackson and Alexandria Weir; one sister, Lorraine (her constant friend and companion); Four nephews Stephen Baker (Sue); David Doggett; Gary Frye (Anita); John McKay; Five nieces, Colleen Doggett; Sharon Mykytyshyn (Marcel) ; Patricia "Peppy" Carroll (Ben); Janet Welch (Edwin); Lorna Ball (Steven); as well as, several great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband and parents; one brother, Victor Doggett and one brother-in-law, Malcolm Speight, and one sister-in-law, Mary Doggett. The funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Although there will be no visitation, friends and family are invited to attend the funeral service, which will be held on Saturday, April 16th, 2011 at 11am at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 369 Main Street, Saint John, with a reception following in the Church Hall. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or the I.W.K. Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family.
