Obituary of Nancy Jane Salmon
It is with great sadness we announce the death of Nancy Jane Salmon of Quispamsis, wife of the late Kenneth Waterbury Salmon Sr., which occurred on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the Saint John Residential Hospice. Born at Saint John on August 30, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Pauline (Ring) Paterson. Nancy was a patron member of Symphony New Brunswick for twenty years. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary YM –YWCA, and acted as treasurer for many years. She was a member of the Union Club and the Riverside Golf and Country Club. She was also a member of Thistle St. Andrew’s Curling Club and a long-time member of Stone Church and treasurer of Chancel Guild for 40 years. Active in her community, Nancy volunteered with the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Meals on Wheels. Her love of music and dancing took her to New York at sixteen. At nineteen, she married her high school boyfriend Kenneth Salmon. They had four children, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren and one more on the way. Nancy also enjoyed traveling, going south nearly every winter, and always tried to attend any function in which her family was involved. A wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and strong matriarch to all her family, she died gracefully like the dancer she was. Nancy is survived by her daughters; Susan Bishop (Craig) of St. Lambert, QC, and Sheryl Taylor (Stuart) of Knowlton, QC; sons, Kenneth Salmon (Sherry) of Saint John, and Peter Salmon of Quispamsis; grandchildren Jeffery Bishop, Vanessa Aiken, Timothy Taylor, Christopher Salmon, Benjamin Salmon and Jonathan Salmon; great grandchildren, Jade, Erica, Elizabeth and Kai. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Saturday from 7-9 PM and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from St. John’s (Stone) Church, 87 Carleton Street, Saint John, on Monday, March 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, St. John’s (Stone) Church, or to any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
