Obituary of V. Jean Lovegrove

V. Jean Lovegrove (née Tonge) of Quispamsis NB, beloved mother, grandmother and wife of the late Ivan M. Lovegrove, passed away on December 22, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on 30 October, 1930 in Saint John and raised in Quispamsis, she was the daughter of the late Keltie and Jennie (Goldsworthy) Tonge. She is survived by her two sons: Dwight (Beth) Lovegrove CD of Halifax, NS and Dwayne (Beverly) Lovegrove CD of Clayton, ON; two grandchildren: Darren Lovegrove of Brantford, ON and Jennifer Lovegrove of Halifax, NS; as well as two great grandchildren: Ryver and Chance Lovegrove of Guelph, ON. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her bothers John, Robert, and Harold. In her early adult years, Jean was employed as a bookkeeper with the N.B. Power Commission, and the N.B. Telephone Company. Newly married, she opened the Pictou Hardware Store with her husband in 1957, and took over ownership and operation of the Wentworth Valley Motor Inn in 1963. After her family moved to the United States, she was employed as a professional seamstress for various OHL and AHL teams in the late 1960s. Upon returning to Quispamsis in 1970, she became an avid volunteer with local youth organizations, supported her local church by providing knitted clothing for people in underdeveloped communities, and continued to work part-time as a bookkeeper. Jean will be remembered by her friendly, sunny disposition and extensive cross-stitching, crochet and knitting abilities. At Jean’s request there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at Fernhill Cemetery on Thursday, December 27, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
