Obituary of Walter Joseph Gilbert
Walter Joseph Gilbert of Saint John passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on August 16, 1957, he was a son of Doreen Mary (Joyce) Gilbert and the late Edward Joseph Gilbert. Wally worked for the city of Saint John for 35 years, retiring on December 31, 2010. He enjoyed hunting, boating, and reading books, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye. In addition to his mother, Wally is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Garnett) Gilbert of Saint John; his children, Jennifer Mills (Paul) of Quispamsis, Christopher Gilbert (Nicole) of Rothesay, and Jeffery Gilbert (Amy) of Quispamsis; his grandchildren, Jacob, Parker and Tanner, Camden and Sydney, and Isaac, Taylor, and Zachary; brothers Edward, Ralph, and Jack Gilbert, and sister Elaine Smith (Stephen), all of Saint John; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father in 1991. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday from 7-9 PM and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Pius X Church, 316 Somerset Street, on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
