Obituary of Ernest Elliott Morrell
Ernest "Ernie" Morrell, a near life-long resident of Sandy Point Road in Saint John, left this life on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Flora "Flo" Morrell, as well as by three children: Country Morrell (friend, June) of Saint John, Dan Morrell (Carol) of New Mexico and Carol (Doug ) Gainforth of Quispamsis. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Heath, Waylon, Mark, Stephanie, Kristen, Robin, Seth; and six great-grandchildren; as well as his sister, Ethel Northrup of Mill Cove.
A skilled mechanic and craftsman, Ernie eventually retired from the City of Saint John’s Welding Shop in 1993. Much of his ironwork can still be seen in the historic parts of the city. His strong work ethic earned him the respect of his colleagues and was instilled in his children and passed to his grandchildren.
As a committed Christian, Ernie lived his life as a reflection of his faith and sought to be a better man each of his days.
Ernie’s family are forever grateful for the strong family bond he helped to forge in their lives.
A gathering, in remembrance for and thanks of his life will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A Celebration of Ernie’s life will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 2:00 pm from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Palliative Care unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
