Obituary of Douglas Ray Ward
It is with heavy hearts the family of Douglas Ray Ward (Doug) (Dougie) announces his passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on December 26, 2018. Born on August 21, 1943, he was the son of the late James and Stella (Campbell) Ward.
Doug was a Saint John Police Officer for 33 years, retiring in 1998 as a Sergeant. Doug loved his family and was so proud of their accomplishments. Doug was very compassionate and touched many lives. As a young adult, he had a passion for cars and had great memories of his days racing in Pennfield. This passion continued into adulthood. He loved time socializing with his friends reminiscing "the good old days" and the many cars they had over the years.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Gail (Blyth) Ward; his sons, Bryce Ward and Sean (Stefanie) Ward; mother-in-law, Evelyn Blyth; nieces, Laurie (Mike), Kimberley (Art) and Tracy (Carrie) and their families and many special brother and sisters-in-law.
In addition to his parents, Doug was predeceased by his sister, Rhonda Jean Shaw and his brother-in-law, Clifford Shaw.
Doug’s family would like to extend their immense thanks and appreciation to the nurses, doctors and staff of ICU 3B South. We so appreciate their generous care and compassion.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Saturday, December 29, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at 2 PM from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to take place at a later date. For those who wish, donations may be made to The Joshua Group or the SPCA Animal Rescue – Saint John. www.BrenansFH.com.
