Obituary of Opal Verna Dwyer

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Opal Verna (Mullin) Dwyer, which occurred on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Wife of the late John J. Dwyer who passed away March 3, 1990, Opal was born in Sevogle, Northumberland County on December 19, 1924, a daughter of the late Charles A. and Pearl E. (Baisley) Mullin. An accomplished homemaker, cook, knitter, and quilter, Opal won numerous first prizes and "Best in Exhibition" for her knitting at the Saint John Exhibition. She was an active member of Holy Trinity CWL and a member of Rocmaura Auxiliary. As Matriarch of her family, Opal was always impeccably groomed and elegant in attire and carriage. Opal is survived by her children, Roxanne Dwyer of Saint John, Terrance Dwyer (Ruth Patterson) of Saint John, Patricia Dwyer of Saint John, and Douglas Dwyer (Marie) of Charlottetown; seven grandchildren, Mark Dwyer, Michael Dwyer (Mary Ellen), and Mary Anne MacDonald (George), all of Charlottetown, Jennifer Dwyer (Duane Warman)of Saint John, Amy Webber (Tim) of Grand Bay, Adam Theriault (Jacqueline) of Saint John, and Allison Theriault of Port Alberni, BC; great grandchildren George, Kelsey, John Michael MacDonald, Jessica, Jackson, and Julianne Dwyer of Charlottetown, Jeremiah and Addison Theriault of Saint John, and Emily Webber of Grand Bay; one great great grandson, Jacob MacDonald of Charlottetown; a brother, Edward "Eddy" Mullin (Ruth) of Miramichi; three sisters, Bertha Smith (late Ronald) of Brantford, ON, Margaret Blackmore (late Daniel) of Cassilis, NB, and Charlene Ward (late Lowell) of Binbrook, ON; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, Opal was predeceased by brothers Joseph, Frederick, Weldon "Bud", and Ronald Mullin; and by a great granddaughter, Calla Katherine Webber. The family would like to extend a gracious thank you to Opal’s compassionate caregivers, Betty Nickerson, Marcia Heaysman, and Angie Howlett. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 2-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Trinity Church, Rockland Road, on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
