Obituary of Joyce Violet Baxter

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Joyce Violet Baxter (Baxter) in her home at Baxters Corner on Monday, October 15, 2012 at 3:35 pm following a lengthy illness. She was the loving wife of the late Donald Baxter and missed him dearly since he passed away on April 19, 1998. Joyce was born March 29, 1932 and was the eldest daughter of James and Jean (Robertson) Baxter. She is survived by her sister, Shirley (late Gerald Baxter) of Baxters Corner and brother, James Baxter (Verna) of Gorham’s Bluff. Joyce was a loving mother of two daughters, Brenda Ross and her husband, Daryl of Saint John and Cindy Legere and her husband Brian of Baxters Corner. She was very proud of her five grandchildren, Jennifer Knox (Darren), Jamie Ross (Catherine), Rachel Dempster (Matthew), Justin Legere and Mark Legere; two great-grandchildren, Callie and Carter Ross. Joyce is also survived by her brother-in-law, Harvey Baxter (Eileen) of Baxters Corner; sister-in-law, Shirley Rankin (late Charles Rankin) of Saint John; brother-in-laws, Carl Baxter (Ruth) of Baxters Corner; Gary Baxter (Shirley) of Saint John and Wayne Baxter (Kathy) of Baxters Corner; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband Don, she was predeceased by her brother, Wesley Baxter; father-in-law, George Baxter; mother-in-law, Myrtle Baxter; nephews, Troy Baxter and Douglas Baxter; brother-in-laws, Charles Rankin and Gerald Baxter. Joyce and Don were married June 25, 1950 and they spent many happy years together at Baxters Corner raising their family. She was a faithful member of All Saints Anglican Church, Loch Lomond and a former vestry member, Sunday school teacher and J.A. Leader. Joyce was also a member of All Saints Anglican Ladies Group and Social Group until her health started to decline. Joyce took great pride in the appearance of her home and flower gardens. She enjoyed going for drives, board games, reading, shopping, swimming, and travelling. She especially enjoyed the time her and Don spent in their boat fishing. But most of all she loved being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. The memories she helped create will be cherished by all who knew her. Arrangements are under the direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 from 7-9 pm and Thursday, October 18, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 1:00 pm from All Saints Anglican Church, Loch Lomond with Rev. Terence Chandra officiating. Joyce will be laid to rest next to Don at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In Joyce’s memory donations to All Saints Anglican Church, Loch Lomond would be appreciated by the family.
