Obituary of Elizabeth Margaret Barry
The death of Elizabeth Margaret Barry occurred at Turnbull Nursing Home on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the age of 94. Ms. Barry was born in Saint John on March 19, 1918, the eldest daughter of the late Dr. John M. Barry and Bertha (Clarke) Barry. She is predeceased by her only sister, Joan Clarke Barry, in 2009 and survived by numerous cousins on both the Barry and Clarke families. Ms. Barry graduated from St. Vincent’s Girls’ High School in 1936. She obtained her Nursing Degree from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia and continued her studies at McGill University in Montreal. Elizabeth worked with the Children's Aid Society and the Catholic Welfare Bureau which subsequently became Family & Community Services of the Province of New Brunswick. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Pius X Church, 316 Somerset Street in Saint John, on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place in the Family Plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
