Obituary of Charles Donald Thomson

Loving husband and best friend for 55 years to Jacquelene Lorna Mary (Crossley), Don passed away on September 8, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with Progressive Supra-Nuclear Palsy. Born on March 5, 1930 to Murray and Amy (Holder) Thomson, he later graduated from Vocational School and with a NB Bursary, attended the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he trained as a medical photographer. After working at the old General hospital in Saint John, he moved on to sales for National Drugs, Sears plumbing and building supplies, and later became sales manager for Park Fuels. Besides his wife, he is survived by daughters Donya (Robert) Speight , Robyn Walker; and son Rexford (Heather) Thomson; also seven grandchildren: Mary Anna and Christina Morris, Tara Ryan, Loren and Emma Walker, Gwyneth & William Thomson; and two great grandchildren: Hunter and Haylee Ryan; as well as his remaining aunt Mrs. Dorothy (Thomson) MacMurray and several cousins. Don was a strong upstanding Christian man who desired deeply that his family and friends accept Jesus into their hearts and live a godly Christian life. With his family he attended St. James the Less Church for many years, and while there he served as Diocesan Lay Reader, a term as Junior Warden and then Senior Warden, as well as, a Sunday School Superintendent. After retirement he was a member of the "Friend and Friend" bowling group and also played his accordion with the "Rhythm Pals" at hymn sings in nursing homes. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Visitation and reception will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at St. James the Less Church Hall, 1760 Rothesay Rd, with a memorial service to follow in the church at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to the Church of the Good Shepherd or St. James the Less Church or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
