Obituary of Melvin Joseph Doucette
It is with loving sadness that we announce the death of our father, Melvin Joseph Doucette of Saint John, husband of Elizabeth (Betty) Jane (McCracken) Doucette, which occurred on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the Loch Lomond Villa. Born on July 16, 1929 he was a son of the late Joseph Basil and Germaine M. (Doiron) Doucette. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth (Betty); children, Mary Jane (Steven) Smith, Susan (Robert) Keeley and Michael (Wendy) Doucette all of Saint John; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Krista, Danielle, Tara and Michael; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Melissa and baby Noah on the way; several nieces and nephews. Melvin was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his siblings, Yvonne, Marie Anne, Betty, Edna, Millie, Violet, Leonard, Clifford, Leo, Herbie, Rita, Mary, Robert and infant brother, Melvin and infant son, Brian. Melvin worked at the Saint John Shipbuilding and Dry Dock, CNR Roundhouse for several years before moving on to start his own used car business, Mel’s Auto Sales Ltd. He also operated several Gas Stations in Saint John. He was a very hard worker and provided well for his family. Melvin loved cars, music, dancing and always took his family out for Sunday drives and dinner. The family would like to extend their sincere thank you to the nurses and staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital and the Loch Lomond Villa for their wonderful care and compassion during Mel’s stay. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 12:00 noon from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation, Romero House or the Alzheimer Society.
