Obituary of Carole Anne Downey
With her family at her side the death of Carole Downey, wife of Arthur Downey occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, September 27, 2012 after a courageous battle with Cancer. She was born on September 20, 1948 in Saint John to Doreen (Brown) Sparks and the late Kenneth Sparks. Carole worked for Anderson Insurance and Fred J. Watts Hardware in her youth and retired after 25 years at Irving Oil Limited. She was a long standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion Portland Branch #64 and Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling and playing darts. Carole was an avid Saint John Sea Dogs and Flames fan. Besides her husband, Carole is survived by her brothers: Michael (Eleanor) and John; sister-in-law, Sharon Sparks; nephews: Jeffrey Sparks, Bryan Sparks, Steven Sparks and Sean Heyneman; her furry friend, BJ and many other close friends. She was predeceased by her father; brother, Bill and her other furry friend, Tiffany. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Service will be held on Sunday evening during visitation. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Diabetes Association or Muscular Dystrophy Canada would be appreciated by the family.
