Obituary of Shirley Irene Williams

It is with loving sadness the family announce the passing of Shirley Irene Williams, which occurred on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre. Born on November 23, 1919 in Saint John, NB, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Ethel Mae (Logan) (Moyer) Williams. Shirley was a veteran of WWII Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division. She began her career working for McAvity and Sons, but would soon move on in her career working for Irving Oil Refinery in the purchasing department for many years until her retirement. While working for Irving, Shirley was very active on the employee social committee and organized the children’s Christmas party. She also managed the employee bowling and ball teams. Shirley was a lifelong resident of Saint John where she lived for over 50 years on Mt. Pleasant Ave, East Saint John before residing in the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre. She is survived by her brother, Charles Williams; special niece, Patricia (James) Hebb and several other nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her brother, Garnett (Millie) Williams; two sisters, Olive (Gar) Peer and Dorothy (Walter) McGoldrick; two half-brothers, Homer (Loretta) Moyer and James (Ida) Moyer; sister-in-law, Augustine Williams and best friend, Hazel Weir. In keeping with Shirley’s wishes there will be no formal visitation or funeral service. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 11:00 am at Cedar Hill Ext. Cemetery. For those who wish remembrances may be made to the Dr. V.A.
