Obituary of Daniel Starkey
Starkey, Daniel -- It is with heavy hearts that family and friends of Danny Starkey announces his passing, which occurred peacefully at his residence on Thursday, February 18, 2016. Born in Cole’s Island on April 11, 1919, he was a son of the late Stephen and Rachel (McKnight) Starkey. Danny was a gentle, childlike soul who loved to sing and play music on his flute and mouth organ. He looked forward to going for long drives or spending time outdoors with those he cared about. He could always sense when special days were approaching, especially Christmas and his birthday, which were always joyous occasions. He loved to be treated with KFC and orange pop on his birthday, and was thrilled when he received a toy that squeaked or played music. He had a special fondness for cats, and was loved by children and adults of all ages. Danny will be missed by his caregiver, Lynn Vail and her family as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Danny was predeceased by his brothers, James, Archie, Stephen and Art; and his sisters, Lizzie and Margaret. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Daniel Scott, as well as the caring team of Extra-Mural nurses who visited Danny for the past seven years – especially Sue, Carolyn, Loree and Karen. Their love and support is so appreciated, and will never be forgotten. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). Although there will be no visitation, all are welcome to attend a celebration of Danny’s life on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #87, 50 Olinville Road, Central Greenwich, NB with Pastor Cory Vail officiating. There will be a reception to follow. Danny’s extended family will have an additional celebration in the spring with date and time to be announced. For those who wish, remembrances made to the New Brunswick Extra Mural program or Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 87 would be appreciated by the family.
