Obituary of Angela Catherina McCarthy

It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Angela Catherina (Conlogue) McCarthy of Johnston Road, Saint John, at 95 years of age, which occurred Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was the wife of the late Gerald Francis McCarthy. Born in Saint John on February 17, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Ethel (Murphy) Conlogue. She will be greatly missed by her three sons, Daniel (Jane) of Toronto, Frank of Saint John and Peter of Fredericton, her three daughters, Mary Angela McCluskey (John) of Saint John, Norah (Andrew) of Toronto, Joan Kyle (Shane) of East Chezzetcook, N.S. and her dog Button. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Erin McCarthy Desjardins, Emily McCarthy, daughter of Frank McCarthy and Krista Uomala, Melissa (McCluskey) Green, Matthew and Louis McCluskey, Scott and Ryan Kyle, Liam and Aidan McCarthy, sons of Daniel McCarthy and Colleen Moorehead, and three great grandchildren, Madison and Emma Green and Mackenzie Desjardins. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Louis and five sisters, Bernardine, Jean, Clare, Helen and Madeline. Mom was a graduate of St Vincent’s High School and the Provincial Normal School. After completing her education, she spent a year teaching grades 1 to 6 in a one room schoolhouse in Penobsquis, N.B. Following this, she returned to Saint John where she joined Scotiabank on Main St in the North End of Saint John. She took a break from her career and spent many happy years raising her children with Gerry on Clarendon Street and Johnston Road. She retired from Scotiabank in 1985. Angie’s quiet strength, love, wit and wonderful sense of humor provided much support, encouragement and enjoyment for her children and grandchildren over the years. Mom was the nucleus of our family, she was always fun to be around and enjoyed by her extended family, friends and work colleagues throughout her life. Mom especially enjoyed baking for her family, knitting beautiful afghans and spending time with her little dog Button. She spent her retirement years with her children and their families and had many wonderful trips throughout Canada, the United States, the British Virgin Islands and Europe. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Saturday, January 12, 3:00 PM in the Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint John area SPCA or the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital. www.BrenansFH.com.
