Obituary of Edward Lee Jones

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Edward "Ed" Lee Jones of Saint John announces his death, which occurred on Sunday, January 22, 2017 in the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on July 11, 1943 in Saint John, he was the son of the late Willard and Grace (Waddell) Jones. Ed will be greatly missed by his partner of 30 years, Florence Levesque; daughter, Sherry (Roger) Dumont; lifelong friend and Sherry’s mother, Marcella Osborne; step-daughters, Emily (Marc) Arsenault and Laurie (Mark) Colwell; grandchildren, Amanda (Rob) Desylva, Mark Colwell, Sam Colwell, Karlee Dumont and Mia Dumont; brothers, Gerry (Barb) Jones and Phil Jones; sister, Colleen (Bill) Sutherland of Halifax; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Ed attended SJHS, where he was active in various sports and graduated in 1961. Following high school, he went on to attend Teacher’s College from where he graduated in 1965 and taught in Grand Falls. Prior to his retirement at the age of 48, he worked as a surveyor and bricklayer on various projects throughout the city. He also owned apartments and made sure his tenants never went without. Ed was an excellent chess player and was always ready for a good argument. He will also be remembered for his love of his furry and feathered pets. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) where visiting will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from 3:00 - 7:00 PM and will be followed by the funeral service, which will be held from Brenan’s Chapel at 7:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the SJRH Palliative Care Unit c/o the SJRH Foundation or the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue.
