Obituary of Frances Gertrude Kemp
The death of Frances (Murphy) Kemp, wife of Harold C. Kemp occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, April 16th after a brief illness. She was born in Saint John on June 14th, 1925 and was the daughter of the late George and Mabel (Maguire) Murphy. Frances is survived by her children, Bradford Palmer, and Nancy (Brian) Daigle both of Saint John as well as her beloved grandchildren, Christopher, Sean and Laura Daigle. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters; Terry Murphy (Anne), Wayne Murphy (Dawn), Lois McAllister (Mort), Loretta Armstrong and Doreen Cyr as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by brother and sisters: Robert Murphy, Dick Murphy, Marie Fleming and Delores Murphy. She also leaves behind her lifelong friends Peggy O’Brien of Saint John and Nancy Gallagher of Dartmouth NS. A proud alumnus of St. Vincent’s High School she went on to a career as a draftsman with NB Tel where she spent 35 years before retiring in 1983. It was after retirement she achieved her proudest moment when she earned a BA degree from Mt. Allison University in 1988. She had a passion for gardening and was a voracious reader. She enjoyed political discussions and the opportunity to debate world events with all comers. She also did extensive work on her family genealogy culminating with the limited publication of her research for distribution to family members. This research led to the discovery of relatives in the USA and Great Britain; one whom Kenneth Knox became a treasured friend to her until her final days. The family would like to thank the health care professionals of the SJRH, particularly the staff of 5C South whose caring efforts made her finals days as comfortable as possible. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). By request of the family there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held in Brenan’s Chapel on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers donations to Romero House or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
