Obituary of Alice Catherine Gallie

It is with sadness the family of Alice Gallie of Saint John, NB beloved wife of the late Phillip "Mac" Gallie, announces her death which occurred on April 12, 2016 at the Church of St. John and Stephen Home. Alice was born on August 24, 1922, a daughter of the late Charles Knox and Margaret (Graham) Knox. Alice was the last surviving member of The Knox Family having been predeceased by her brothers, Douglas, Ronald, Russell, David, John and Arthur and her sisters, Dorothy, Ella, Mary and Elizabeth. Alice was also predeceased by her friend Opal Magee. Alice is survived by her Goddaughter, Lillian Magee-Willard (George); nephews Paul Knox (Carol) of Bethel; Frank Buchanan (Donna) of Pennsylvania; niece Myra Clancy (David) of Texas; special great nieces Gail Buchanan of Portland and Lucy Poirier of Moncton. She is also survived by many nieces and nephew and great nieces and nephews on both the Knox and Gallie sides of the family. Also by her good friend Carol Bowes. Alice lived the greater part of her life in Saint John, NB. She was a Veteran and a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary Branch 69 Legion. Alice was also a lifetime member of the Hong Kong Veterans Commemorative Association of Canada. Alice was also a long time parishioner of Grace Presbyterian Church. Alice was a very loving and gentle lady and not having children of her own she shared her love with her many nieces and nephews and especially her Goddaughter Lillian and her family. Alice loved to bowl, do plastic canvassing, crossword puzzles and play ramoli. She loved to travel both in Canada and USA and abroad. She was an avid reader. Alice’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of The Church of St. John and St. Stephen Home. For their excellent care and consideration during Alice’s time with them, care that won’t be forgotten. As per Alice’s wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes buried with her husband, Phil in the New Mills Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
